LABUAN – Labuan contingent will send 24 athletes to participate in the 18th Paralimpiad to be held on August 4 till 11 at Kuching, Sarawak.
The sport director of Special Olympics Labuan, Johnson Wong on yesterday told that Labuan would take part in six events namely in, ten pin bowling, lawn ball, archery, swimming, track and field and ping pong.
“We do target to capture five gold, eight silver and 10 bronze medals in the game,” he said during the flag handing over ceremony held at Labuan Corporation Tower.
The flag was handed over by Labuan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rozman Isli to the director of Labuan Youth and Sports Department, Zaini Aziz.
Zaini was also appointed as the Chef de Mission for Labuan contingent and assisted by the director of Labuan Education Department, Raisin Saidin.
On previous achievement during the 17th Paralimpiad held in Perlis, Labuan contingent had bagged three gold, four silver and five bronze medals.
During the flag handing over ceremony, Rozman and Raisin had been appointed as the honorary members of Persatuan Sukan dan Rekreasi Orang Kurang Upaya (Pesron) for Labuan, while Datin Seri Norsiah Abdullah was appointed as its patron.
Rozman and Norsiah sponsored RM5,000 each for Pesron Labuan, while the latter, sponsored the uniforms for Labuan contingent.
Some six team managers, six coaches and six officials were also accompanying Labuan contingent to the games.
