LABUAN – Labuan Maksak Football had set their target to qualify into quarter final in Veteran Football and in open categories for Majlis Kebajikan dan Sukan Anggota-Anggota Kerajaan Malaysia (Maksak) Championships 2016 to be held on this coming August 11-14 at Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu.
The team head coach, Cheong Shan Shi spoke about the target to the media recently.
Cheong who had B coaching license from Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) told that all his 36 players (16 each for a category) for both categories had shown their high commitment during the training session held at Labuan Square Field since two months ago.
“Since June 8, our players undergone the training session from 9pm to 11.30pm during Ramadan, and this is their commitment to create history for Labuan Maksak Football team. After Ramadan, they started to undergo the training at 4pm till 6pm for each day.
“We did also organise series of friendly match with strong football teams here in Labuan to strengthen our combination and the players’ team work.
“My hope is big for the team to get into quarter final for this time,” he said, adding that he had told his players that their visit to Terengganu was none other than to create winning history for Labuan Maksak Football Team.
In open category, Labuan is in Group A with Perlis, Kelantan and the previous champion, Johore, while in veteran category also in Group A, Labuan will play against Perlis, Johore and Perak.
Cheong told further that the teams were selected through 9-a-side tournament organised by Labuan Maksak at Labuan Stadium to ensure the teams were strong and well-prepared for the championship.
Cheong is assisted by his assistant coaches namely, Hairul Abd Rashid, Alfian Jefri Chin and Azim Omar.
The champion in the tournament will bag home cash prize RM2,000, round cup, trophies and medals. While, in second and third received RM1,500 and RM1,000 cash each.
Any donation for the football team is welcome, said the team manager, Termini Wahab.
