LABUAN – After only winning in second place in creative dance for open category in the second night of Borneo Arts Festival (BAF) 2016, finally, the dance group of Sanggar Budaya Sri Pengkalan from Kuala Lumpur won in the first place in the traditional battle dance on yesterday.
Their performance in the third or last night of BAF 2016 had charmed the judges to select them over their opponent, Seroja from Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur where the latter automatically won in second place.
The court of dance in the final between the two dance groups was opened with joget and zapin tunes, but later received a critics from one of the juries that the zapin tune was too speed for the groups to perform.
While, in third place was won by the champion in the earlier creative dance event, Putera Putri from Kota Kinabalu.
The champion received cash prize totaling RM2,000, while in second and third received RM1,000 and RM500 each.
Present to hand over the prizes was Senator Datuk Yunus Kurus.
Also present were the chairman of Labuan Corporation (LC) Advisory Council, Datuk Bashir Alias, the chief executive officer of LC, Azhar Ahmad and the director of LC Arts, Culture and Tourism Department, Mahathir Abdul Hamid.
