LABUAN – Labuan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rozman Isli expressed his gratitude to the community of Kadazan Dusun Murut (KDM) community for their contribution towards this island development.
In his speech before officiating the Kaamatan Celebration held at Blessed Sacrament Multi-Purpose Hall here today, he spoke that the community had also contributed towards unity among the people of Labuan.
“We are welcoming the idea by the KDCA (Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association) Labuan to get involved and to be part of the products of Labuan tourism, as it is in line with our aspiration to develop our tourism industry here. Indeed, we need the idea to showcase our cultures here to the tourists,” he said.
Earlier, the chairman of KDCA Labuan, Peter Pikul in his speech suggested to the authority here to create a cultural centre where KDCA along with other ethnics here in this island could take part for the benefits of tourism industry in Labuan.
While, Rozman told that it was timely for Labuan to upgrade the capacity of this island to commercialize the cultural performances in Labuan.
“Cultural dances are among the things that the tourists intend to see when they come to our place. Therefore, Labuan Island that is dubbed as the Pearl of Borneo must enhance its tourism products.
“Each of us is playing our role to boost our tourism industry here,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rozman said that he was keen to apply for allocation to set up a museum here in this island that would display the whole of Borneo ethnics’ cultures.
“To set up such museum, it needs a huge allocation. We hope that our national economy would recover soon to implement our development plans in Labuan,” he said.
Also present were Senator Datuk Yunus Kurus, the chief executive officer of Asian Supply Base (ASB) Sdn. Bhd, Datuk Harris Annuar Tan, Labuan PBS chief, Datuk Peter Mak, Labuan Upko chief, Ronald James, KDCA central committee member, Lawrence Jomiji Kinsil and the president of Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Labuan, Paul Ipoh Leokin.
