As expected after the conclusion of 14th General Election (GE) in May 9 this year, Labuan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rozman Isli is finally justified and finalised the expectation of the people in his constituency of Labuan Island that he will dump Umno to join Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition that is now ruling the country.

Even though his decision is a bit late compared to his former comrades who also did the similar decision, but it is still significant for the direction of Labuan Island in terms of politics and economy.

Today he announced to the media that he is joining Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan), which is a Sabah-based party and handed over his application form to join the party.

In his statement, he told that his decision to join Warisan is historic, as after 34 years Labuan Island being declared as one of the federal territories in this country, now for the first time, its member of parliament is coming from Sabah-based party.

“After a deep thought for such a long time and after considering the views from different sides here, I made a decision to join Warisan and quit from Umno,” he said.

Also present, the deputy president of Warisan cum International Trade and Industries Minister, Datuk Darell Leiking who said that Rozman’s application to join Warisan had been approved and it marked a very important event for both Labuan and Sabah.

With such decision, most of Rozman’s loyalists who also left Umno can now breathe in relief.

Despite his move is perceived as an opportunistic one for his political survival, but it is seen very important for further development of Labuan Island where he previously co-engineered Labuan Development Blueprint 2030.

One of the highlights in the blueprint is the construction of Labuan-Sabah Bridge.

Now he is back into the government after several months in the opposition side and now he is on the right track and in a position to discuss about the bridge project further with the president of Warisan, Datuk Seri Panglima Mohd Shafie Apdal who is also the chief minister of Sabah.

Most of the people in the island are eager to know whether some funds will also pour into Labuan from Sabah state besides from the federal government after Rozman joined Warisan.

Will Rozman be reappointed as the chairman for Labuan Corporation after his tenure is terminated together with the other members of Labuan Corporation Advisory Council after the recent 14th GE?

And will he assume any position within Warisan for Labuan branch soon?
