LABUAN – The people’s talks and speculation here in this island ended today after Labuan-born corporate figure, Datuk Seri Amir Hussien is being officially appointed as the new chairman for Labuan Corporation (LC) by the federal territory minister, Khalid Abdul Samad.
Speaking to media after he received his letter of appointment, he thanked to the minister for the trust given to him where he perceived it as a huge responsibility that he must carry to ensure Labuan was moving forward.
“I want to focus in creating job opportunities especially for the locals here. We will look into several companies here for such purpose and we want to provide ongoing training for the potential employees where the companies must be transparent.
“Our focus will be on tourism sector, but, to develop this industry will take time. However, we will come out with a comprehensive plan to move the industry.
“We need to find out the tourism-related companies in Labuan and what they can do to contribute for the industry development here,” he said who was also assumed a duty as Labuan chief coordinator for Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
He said further that he did discuss with the ministry of tourism, arts and culture ministry where there was an allocation amounted to RM1 billion being allocated for the tourism development in this country where he wanted the tourism industry players here in Labuan to take the opportunity to come out with their products.
“It does not necessary that you must have a company in producing the tourism products,” he said, adding that he would look into the structure of Labuan Corporation Advisory Council for further improvement to approach the rakyat here in this island.
When asked about Labuan Development Blueprint 2030, he replied that it was a high standard plan for Labuan where he needed to study it in detail.
Meanwhile, the general secretary of federal territory ministry, Datuk Seri Adnan Md Ikshan will assume the role as the deputy chairman for PL and another four appointed LC committee members from various agencies were Datuk Allauddin Anuar (Economic Planning Unit), Danial Mah Abdullah (Labuan Financial Services Authority), Suhaili Ahmad (Finance Ministry) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Geoffrey Harvey Tanakinjal (UMS-KAL).
While, Labuan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rozman Isli was being appointed as the chairman for LC Advisory Council.
Another four members appointed for the council were Noor Halim Datuk Zaini, Dr. Ramli Tahir, Simsudin Sidek and Wong Kwan Kit.
All the appointments above will take effect for two years.
