LABUAN – Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) in collaboration with Junior Chamber International Labuan (JCI Labuan) on yesterday organised a two-day ‘Bring Your Own Bag (Say “No” To Plastic Bag) Campaign’ here.
Spokesperson for the campaign told they aimed to raise awareness among the people to make Labuan Island more sustainable to the environment.
“We are focusing in educating the market goers and shoppers on the danger of extensive use of plastics to the environment; and to increase ecological consciousness among the local community to embrace a more sustainable lifestyle.
“Volunteers from Labuan FSA and JCI Labuan will go all out in these two days to promote the campaign by distributing reusable shopping bags at UTC Labuan, Bataras Hypermarket and Pasar Tani.
“During the campaign, there are information sharing by the volunteers and infographics display, to inspire and convince the community to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bags,” said the spokesperson, adding that throughout the campaign, Labuan FSA hoped it would make a difference for the environment and marine eco-system in this island.
While, the spokesperson said further that the campaign was part of JCI Labuan’s flagship project – “We Care We Act”.
As part of the continuous community engagement activities, Labuan FSA and JCI Labuan will conduct another awareness programme on this September 21, in conjunction with the World Cleanup Day.
