Galeri Petronas celebrates unsung heroes of Malaysian architecture

July 2, 2019

KUALA LUMPUR — Galeri Petronas celebrates the people behind the Malaysian architectural scene through Unsung Heroes (Wira Sebalik Tabir) exhibition, organised in collaboration with Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival 2019 (KLAF 2019).

The exhibition is a continuation of the success of the previous partnership with PAM in 2017 through Manifest: Modernism of Merdeka exhibition.

The Unsung Heroes exhibition is in line with Petronas’ vision to develop and nurture human capital that contributes to the sustainable well-being of the nation.

It promotes the craft and contributions of ‘heroes’ such as the general workers, drafters, visual illustrators, designers, young architects, modellers and photographers from the architecture industry, all of whom are drivers of the dynamics of Malaysian architecture in the past, and continue to carve this legacy into the future.

Through seven thematic zones (Wawasan, Perkasa, Mercu, Lestari, Prihatin, Bakti and Balai) featuring 27 Malaysian architecture firms, the exhibition aims to elevate public appreciation towards the creativity of the people that in-turn imagined Malaysia’s architectural landscape into reality.

A selection of artworks from the Petronas Art Collection (PAC), which depicts the Petronas Twin Towers, an iconic building that redefines the landscape of Malaysian architecture in the 21st century, is also made available to the visitors.

KLAF 2019, which is ongoing until this July 7 aims to raise awareness and encourage inclusive engagements with Malaysians on sustainable living in the super connected age.
