LABUAN — Labuan Bird Park Eco Ultra Marathon (LBPEUM) that is recognised as an international event by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) based in Europe will be held here in this island on this coming 7th to 8th September.
The race director for LBPEUM 2019, Saidun Lee spoke that the participants in the first two categories namely 70km (ultra distance) and 50km would be flagged off as early as 2am on September 7, while those taking part in 30km category would be flagged off at 5am.
“The racers will race on road, trail and beach. All the participants in the three categories are expected to finish their run by 8pm on the same day.
“On the next day, the participants in 8km and 3km will be flagged off at 6.30am,” he said, adding that the race would be covered on Asia Trail Master based in Hong Kong.
LBPEUM was first inspired by Victoria Sports Asia as the technical organiser to support the main organiser, Labuan Veterinary Department.
Lee told further that the event was meant to expose Labuan Bird Park as a world tourism centre by introducing ‘Eco Ultra Marathon’, as its platform to attract participants to come to Labuan.
“We expect some participants from Europe and Asia to take part in this event. From this event, there will be huge impact to our local economy including hotels, restaurants, transportation and even kampung folks those doing their businesses along the road,” he said.
He recalled that their first event of Labuan Bird Park Trail 2019 held on last month here was a success with 600 participants that surpassed their target of 500 participants, and they donated some of their fund derived from the event to Labuan Bird Park.
